KDE (K Desktop Environment) is a desktop environment (desktop environment) and application development platform built with the Qt toolkit from Trolltech. KDE can be found on various Unix systems, including Linux, BSD, and Solaris. KDE is also available for Mac OS X with the help of layers for X11 and Microsoft Windows with the help of Cygwin.

KDE main advantage is ease of use, flexibility, portabitilis, and a wealth of features. KDE is developed in line with KDevelop, software development packages, and KOffice, office applications packages.
The letter "K" the beginning was to "Kool", but later changed to "K" only, which means "script first before the 'L' (for Linux) in the Latin alphabet."
KDE has its own characteristics in terms of naming software with almost always use the letters K, such as Konversation, ocular. This will not always be a necessity because there are too many software in the default KDE does not use the letter K as Gwenview.
Mascot of the KDE project is a green dragon named Konqi. Konqi can be found in various applications, including when users want to log out and on display "About KDE".
